My name is Kathryn Maloney and I will soon be graduating with a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University.  I will be spending my summer volunteering my services to an underdeveloped hospital in Honduras or Nicaragua.

As a volunteer member of the non-profit organization Engineering World Health, I will be traveling to Central America to help repair inoperative medical equipment which has been donated to a local hospital.  A rarely known fact about developing nations’ hospitals is that most of their equipment is donated but no longer working.  My duties will not only include repairing and installing the equipment, but training the hospital staff in the use of the equipment as well.

Unfortunately Engineering World Health and the hospital with which I will be working cannot afford to cover my volunteer expenses in their entirety and I will need to raise the remaining $6000 by April 20, 2011.  This is where you come in, your donation no matter how big or small will bring me one step closer to fulfilling my fundraising goal. In return, I will post pictures and write about my experiences as a volunteer so you will be able to see what I accomplish with your support.

Thank You
